Observations with Duct Systems
Being in the business for more than 25 years, we found out that the majority of systems we’ve scoped and repaired were due to the concrete that was never properly laid at the bottom or sides, leaving the section of the duct exposed to many elements. Most damage comes from the water making its way into your ducts from the roof runoff, soaking the ground at the foundation.
Many homes throughout New Mexico that were built in the era of about 1960-1990 have in-floor duct systems that are erosion prone. A large number of homes with in-floor ducting contain a material called Sono-Tube. It is hardened cardboard that is hard-pressed into multiple layers with a strictly cosmetic tin foil lining on the inside to make it look like metal. The duct systems contain galvanized steel junctions and elbows. But a cardboard duct that has been exposed to water is very prone to deterioration.
Galvanized Steel Duct Systems
These duct systems are not entirely safe, either. Galvanized steel duct systems tend not to collapse but to rust all the way through the metal. It will deteriorate until the metal starts to flake off and fill your living space with rust debris.
Seeing and experiencing all these, we have been known for our noninvasive duct repair, and our repair specialization has been honed. We have completed more than 4,000 residential and commercial repair jobs.
